On September 27, Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira will deliver the inaugural K. N. King and Susan A. Cole Distinguished Lecture at an event celebrating the department's 25th anniversary. Dr. Cruz-Neira, the Agere Chair Professor of Computer Science at the University of Central Florida, will discuss “Virtual Reality as the Ultimate Display: Are We There Yet?” The talk is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in the Centennial Ballroom IV at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
Dr. Cruz-Neira is a pioneer in the areas of virtual reality (VR), interactive visualization, and digital twins. She has been named one of the top innovators in VR and one of the top three greatest women visionaries in VR. She is the first person inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for contributions to immersive technologies and VR.
The lecture is part of a two-day celebration of the 25th anniversary of Georgia State’s Department of Computer Science. Dr. Cruz-Neira’s talk will be followed by a banquet on the evening of September 27 at the Hyatt Regency. The celebration will continue on September 28 at the Marjorie & Ralph Knowles Conference Center in Georgia State’s College of Law building.
Dr. Cruz-Neira’s talk is the first in a series of annual lectures by distinguished computer scientists. Funding for the lectureship is provided by associate professor emeritus K. N. King and his wife, Susan Cole.
