Why Study Computer Science?
Over the past half-century, computers have become ubiquitous. They are now integrated into our phones, our television sets and our vehicles. Our entertainment is increasingly computer-driven, from games to computer-generated effects in movies and television. More recently, computer science has joined forces with biology to create tremendous advances in health care.
Computer science graduates are at the heart of this revolution. They work in a vast number of fields, primarily developing new software and maintaining existing software. Computer science continues to grow and evolve, creating new jobs in the process. The future is unlimited for graduates who have a talent for problem-solving and a passion for the field.
Data Science
The Department of Computer Science now offers two data science degrees: the bachelor of science in data science and the master of science in data science and analytics. Data science is a relatively new field at the intersection of computer science, statistical methodologies and a wide range of application domains. It focuses on the generation, processing and analyzing of vast amounts of data. Data scientists are trained to extract valuable insights from this data.
